Boiler Warranties Explained: What's Covered and for How Long?

Manufacturer warranties on boilers vary widely. Here's what they cover, what voids them, and how to protect your investment.

Boiler Warranties Explained: What's Covered and for How Long?

Why Boiler Warranties Matter

A new boiler is a significant investment — typically £1,500–£3,500 installed. A manufacturer warranty gives you protection against defects and faults in materials or workmanship for a defined period. Understanding what's covered — and what isn't — is important.

Typical Warranty Lengths by Brand (2025)

| Brand | Standard Warranty | Extended (with registration) |

|-------|------------------|------------------------------|

| Worcester Bosch | 2 years | Up to 12 years |
| Vaillant | 2 years | Up to 10 years |
| Ideal | 2 years | Up to 10 years |
| Baxi | 2 years | Up to 10 years |
| Viessmann | 2 years | Up to 10 years |

Extended warranties almost always require:

1. Registration on the manufacturer's website within 30 days of installation

2. Annual servicing by a Gas Safe registered engineer (with records kept)

What Is Covered by a Boiler Warranty?

Standard warranty coverage includes:

  • **Parts:** Faulty components (heat exchanger, pump, PCB, etc.)
  • **Labour:** Manufacturer's own engineers for warranty repair visits
  • What Is NOT Covered?

  • **Normal wear:** Filters, seals, and other consumable parts
  • **Accidental damage:** Physical damage, flooding, freezing
  • **Poor maintenance:** Faults caused by sludge, scale, or lack of servicing
  • **Incorrect installation:** Faults resulting from the boiler being fitted incorrectly
  • **Blocked condensate pipe:** Often listed as a maintenance issue
  • How to Protect Your Warranty

    1. Register your boiler on the manufacturer's website immediately after installation

    2. Service annually using a Gas Safe registered engineer and keep the service records

    3. Fit a magnetic filter — many manufacturers require this for extended warranties

    4. Use a clean system — power flush before installation if the system is old
